SCIENCE-based businesses will be brought together under one roof if the Sydney Science Park gets the go-ahead.
Food security, health and energy will be the focus of the multi-billion-dollar facility at Luddenham, which will also include retail and residential buildings.
EJ Cooper and Son, a subsidiary of Baiada, plans to spend about $2.5 billion over 25 years on the 287ha project. Penrith Council recently endorsed the proposal and is forwarding it to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure to seek gateway determination.
The park proposes to have the capacity to employ 12,200 professionals, educate 10,000 students, have 3400 dwellings and a town centre with retail floor space as well as parklands and water bodies.
“It's the type of development we know Penrith, and indeed, greater western Sydney, is ready for,” Penrith mayor Ross Fowler said.
