A man has been charged after allegedly leaving a gel blaster firearm on a Sydney Train.

A man has been charged after allegedly leaving a gel blaster gun on a train – which left commuters in a state of panic.

Police were alerted to an unattended firearm on March 22 at Redfern Station, after commuters realised a man had allegedly left the weapon after departing the train.

A 43-year-old man was arrested at a home in Carlton about 3am on Wednesday.

The man was taken to Kogarah Police Station where he was charged with enter/leave restricted area not process ticket, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm and acquire a prohibited firearm subject to a prohibition order.

Gel blaster guns are illegal in NSW and owning one is considered the same as having an unregistered firearm.

The man has been refused bail to appear in Sutherland Local Court.
