How singer Frank Lakoudis learnt to rock The Voice Australia
He’s now wowing Australia and living it up in LA with pop royalty but Voice contestant Frank Lakoudis will never forget what got him there.
“Everything has just been a whirlwind,” says Voice contestant Frank Lakoudis after five-day visit to the music industry heartland of Los Angeles..
“It is just a surreal experience I have had and it is a long way from St Effies.”
The heavy metal vocalist has come a long way from the classrooms of St Euphemia College in Bankstown.
Lakoudis’ powerhouse vocals have had him ahead of everyone in The Voice from the minute he took to the stage and the 22-year-old has impressed coach and mentor Joel Madden at every turn in the competition, making him one of the favourites to take out the title.
Despite his new found stardom, Lakoudis has remained true to himself and told The Express he will never forget the beginning of his musical career thanks to his dad and school.
“My dad was my inspiration and what got me into music,” he said.
“I didn’t really get into music until I went to St Effies where I was chosen in the choir and did the closing ceremony at the 2000 Olympics together with the choirs from the other Greek schools All Saints Grammar and St Spyridon College.
“I started my first band when I got into high school in year 7 or 8 and now I am here.
The youngster has been involved with heavy metal band Rattlesnake for the past five years.
He has now made himself known to the entire Australian music scene with fantastic performances on the show, singing Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song and Lenny Kravitz’s American Woman.
He said working with Joel Madden is a blessing.
“Joel Madden has nothing but good advice to give us, he really wants us to get something out of this,” he said.
“He tells us that you still need to put in hard work after the show for everything to go on.”
Lakoudis admits he was not sure if he would get the chance to sing for the judges due to his heavy rock voice.
Now he is aiming to make the most of his opportunity on the reality show.
“I really try and set small goals for myself and it has worked.,” he said.
“From the beginning it was get through each phase. My next goal is to get into the top eight which will secure me a place on a tour around Australia.
“If I can get that then the next goal will be to go on and win this thing.
“This show is showing what I can do with my voice and singing some really cool classic songs. “I write my own songs as well and when this is done I will get back with the band (Rattlesnake) and hope to go on to great rock success.”
