A FATHER and daughter shared the podium in Lane Cove’s annual Captured Photography Competition.
It was third time lucky for Ben Mok, of Greenwich, who won the 18 years and over category after coming third in the past two competitions.
Under the theme of Diversity, a photo of his daughter’s Easter parade this year impressed judges for capturing nine different nationalities in the one small class at Greenwich Public School.
Featured in the photo are children with family heritage from England, Ireland, Japan, China, South Africa, Korea, Indonesia, Italy and Australia. There are also members who are descendants of Sir Joseph Banks, Ned Kelly, Douglas Pitt and Su Tabo of the Meriam people of Mer Island.
His daughter Kiara Mok, 6, wasn’t only in her father’s winning photo but also shot a winning photo in the 12 years and under category.
Her photo showed a colourful arrangement of leaves which read “I love Lane Cove”.
“It was such a surprise,” Mr Mok said. “They announced the children’s category first so I thought, ‘surely you won’t get two winners from the same family’
“I didn’t think I would win; when they announced my name I was looking around thinking ‘was that really me?’.”
Bikes, Aboriginal elders, letters and even bins featured among the place winners in this year’s competition.
“Having this competition is a great idea; it allows the community to see areas they might not have explored before,” Mr Mok said.
The winners were awarded last Wednesday night with the top 100 photos featuring in an exhibition at Gallery Lane Cove until June 11 2014.
Gallery Lane Cove is located on the Upper Level of 164 Longueville Rd Lane Cove and is open 10am to 4.30pm weekdays and 10am to 2.30pm on Saturdays.
