The new school on the UTS site in Lindfield is set to be “the best school in the southern hemisphere”, according to an education consultant for the project.

Some ideas being discussed are creating a school for preschool-aged children to Year 12 and beyond, completing the HSC over three years and allowing students to advance according to their rate of progress rather than age.

Public consultation opened this month on the school to replace the university campus, after an in-principle asset swap agreement was made in December 2012.

The university agreed to swap its Kuring-gai campus in Lindfield in exchange for the Education Department’s TAFE building on Harris St, Ultimo.

The university is due to vacate the site by the end of the 2015 academic year, with minimal building changes expected to take place, according to members of the site’s consultation committee.

An afternoon tea and tours of the site were held last Saturday and several more events will be held on Tuesday, July 29.

It includes a public consultation workshop during the day and an evening lecture by education consultant Professor Stephen Heppell, a UK professor and supporter of “barefoot learning”.
