IT’S not every day you get coffee with a pleasant surprise from a cafe manager.
One woman who turned up last Friday at CB’s Cafe in Penrith with her friends received a shock when the cafe manager asked them an unexpected question.
Helen Keane, of Hebersham, had been chatting with three friends when Alicia McLaren walked up and interrupted them.
“Did any of you ladies lose these rings?” Mrs McLaren asked.
Mrs Keane immediately recognised the jewellery she lost more than a year ago.
Mrs Keane told the Penrith Press it was incredible for Mrs McLaren to keep the rings for so long and also to recognise her after more than a year.
“I couldn’t believe it - it’s so lovely of her to have kept the rings,” Mrs Keane said.
“It was a lovely thing to do. I would not have been able to replace the rings, which cost more than $800, and one was given to me by one of my children.
“There’s some very good people out there.”
Mrs McLaren said Mrs Keane was grateful and thanked her profusely.
“I found the rings on the floor near the table where the women sat,” Mrs McLaren said.
“She gave me a big hug.”
Mrs McLaren said she had not seen the women for a year and knew the women were from out of town and only visited the cafe occasionally.
“I was hoping they would eventually come back,” she said.
Mrs Keane’s friend Myra Rodgers said they sat at the same table on several occasions more than a year ago.
“We were all astounded as my friend had lost those rings and had no clue as to where she had lost them,” Mrs Rodgers said.
“They had slipped off her finger and could have been anywhere.
“Alicia could have just discarded those rings, and how she remembered us I have no idea.”
