Can Anja, the little girl from Winmalee win The Voice?
Anja Nissen has shown real strength to make The Voice final tonight. But nothing on the show compares to the day her grandparents lost their home to bushfire.
Anja Nissen has toughed it out through live auditions, weeks of competition, and a barrage of social media critics claiming revealing outfits not vocal talent have seen her progress.
But The Voice finalist has already overcome much more serious challenges in her young life.
The only female solo artist in tonight’s live final grew up in Winmalee in the Blue Mountains, an area ravaged by bushfires last October.

Her grandparents lost their home in the fires and the 18-year-old said the tragedy made her realise the value of her hometown.
“Before (the fires) we saw each other out normally, waved and said hi, but after we all helped out each other and became a big family,” she said.
“It’s in times like these that I realise how lucky I am to live in this amazing community.
“It really is an amazing place. It’s not like living in the city, you just have fresh air and openness. I love living where I live. I’m really missing it at the moment.”
The blonde diva partly attributes her powerful voice to being able to sing as loud as she desired at her parents’ rural property from the age of six without disturbing the neighbours.
While she has been inspired musically by the likes of Celine Dion, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey, she said it was her home community that kept pushing her through the competition.
“I’m grateful that I have the support of my local community and also the support from people across Australia,” she said.
“Going to school in the area was nice, and growing up around here has been amazing.
“But what I think I’ve enjoyed more than anything is seeing how close the community is, especially in times of need.”
A series of photos from her facebook show an a happy upbringing in the country while snaps from her recently-finished high school days demonstrate a youth that isn’t obvious in the richness of her voice.
Miss Nissen said she is looking forward to returning to her friends and family after tonight’s live final.
The show starts at 7.30pm on Channel 9.
Once the show is finished she said she hopes to collaborate with mentor Will.i.am and release her own music.
