Star Sydney Roosters help Clovelly Crocodiles celebrate 95th anniversary

CLOVELLY Crocodiles celebrated the club's 95th anniversary with a carnival atmosphere recently at Burrows Park.

CLOVELLY Crocodiles celebrated the club's 95th anniversary with a carnival atmosphere recently, as more than 300 people enjoyed rides and games at Burrows Park.

The club is renowned for the strength in its junior rugby league ranks and star Sydney Roosters players including Jared Waerea Hargraves and Shaun Kenny-Dowall led young Crocs through drills.

Club secretary Anna Maratta said it was the first time the club had organised a daytime anniversary, adding it was a nice change to have children and parents come together to celebrate their local club.

"One thing people always say is that this club is family oriented," she said.

"It's not about winning all the time or cut-throat competition, but being able to enjoy being together as a family at a football game on a Sunday."

Ms Maratta has been involved with the club for 10 years and remembers when her two sons first started playing for the Crocodiles at the age of four and six.

"They're 18 and 20 now, playing A Reserve grade, and they've never considered playing for another club," she said.

"Even the youngest, when he was playing A-Grade as a 17-year-old never thought about changing clubs. It's the kind of club that has that effect on you."
