THREE-POINTERS, free throws and even slam dunks will become a feature of Lyne Park after a new outdoor basketball court was opened last week.

The full-size court was built by Woollahra Council with the help of a substantial grant from the Michael Wrublewski Foundation.

Mr Wrublewski, who died from pancreatic cancer in 2009, was a former owner of the Sydney Kings NBL team and an eastern suburbs resident.

His widow and the foundation trustee Shauna Wilson said the court was a fitting tribute to a man who loved basketball.

"We always thought there was a need for more facilities for young people in the area, and this idea came about just after walking in Lyne Park," she said.

"I'd travelled all over Sydney with my daughter for sport and been gobsmacked by some of the facilities that existed, and thought the foundation could do something for the young people.

"And it is the perfect location for it I can totally see kids playing basketball here but also using the flat space for other things maybe even learning to ride a bike for the first time."

Woollahra Mayor Andrew Petrie said the court was a "terrific addition".
