Randwick travelled to Sydney University on Saturday looking to make it four wins in a row, but were beaten by the competition favourites.
The game marked a return to competitive rugby for Wallabies star Kurtley Beale, who was named at fullback.
The Wicks received a further boost with the late inclusion of Beale’s good friend and Wallabies teammate Drew Mitchell, who was named on the bench.
A dominant 60 minutes of rugby saw a strong Students outfit build up an unassailable lead over Randwick to secure their sixth win of the season and rise to third on the Shute Shield ladder.
Trailing 26-6, a second half resurgence saw Randwick claw their way back in to the match, with tries to Faitotoa Asa, and Cayden Matehaere.
But the damage had been done in the first half and Sydney University ran away with the win, 38-25.
The Shute Shield takes a break over the long weekend, returning on Saturday, June 15 when Randwick hosts Gordon at Coogee Oval.
