South Sydney demolished the struggling Wests Tigers on Friday night, 54-10, in a merciless showing that saw fullback Greg Inglis bag four tries.

Inglis’ table-topping Rabbitohs applied the blowtorch to the last-placed Tigers with the home side averaging just under a point a minute in the first half – in part thanks to some poor Tigers defence.

Early tries to Nathan Merritt, Greg Inglis and debutant speedster Dylan Walker, saw the Bunnies take a comfortable16-0 lead just 15 minutes in to the match as the red and greens sliced through the Wests defence at will.

Desperately In need of a spark, Benji Marshall’s addition for the Tigers failed to make an impact when the out of form playmaker was thrown in to the mix in the 17th minute.

Tries to Beau Champion, Sam and George Burgess, and another to Greg Inglis rounded out the first half points avalanche from the Bunnies, before the Tigers crossed for a try of their own just before the break to bring the half-time score to 38-4.

With the match result all but assured by the break, the Tigers strengthened their defence in the second half, conceding only two converted tries and scoring one of their own.

Despite the convincing win, Souths coach Michael Maguire is adamant that his side still has plenty of work to do.

“We want to make sure we’re continually giving 80 minute performances,” said Maguire.

The Rabbitohs will now take on the Cronulla Sharks in Cronulla next Monday, Kick off is at 7:00pm.
