Plenty of racquet this weekend as Matraville holds court for major squash tournament

A MAJOR squash tournament at Matraville this weekend will encourage young players to play, organisers say.

A MAJOR squash tournament held in Matraville this weekend will promote the sport and encourage young players to pick up a racquet, organisers say.

Matraville Sports Centre will play host to more than 120 professional and amateur competitors who will compete for the inaugural Matraville Open title.

Organiser Jason McLauchlan said he expected local participation numbers to boom in the weeks following the tournament.

"I have no doubt there will be a great flow-on effect and local squash clubs will really benefit long term," he said.
