A BONDI Rugby League player has been selected to play for the Sydney Roosters under-16s side after punching above his weight in local competitions.

Fifteen-year-old Justin Lane, who plays for Bondi United, has now been playing above his age category for two seasons.

Tackling and running against players bigger and more experienced doesn't faze the young teen, who has his eyes set on more representative honours with the Roosters and state teams.

His performances have caught the Roosters coaches' eyes and earned him a place in the Harold Matthews Cup under-16s side.

The Cup has been the breeding ground for a number of top NRL players and matches the best under-16 players from across NSW against each other in an elite tournament.

His coach, Darren Hoffman, said it was uncommon for someone to perform as strongly and consistently as Lane had in competitions exceeding his age bracket.

Justin Lane is this week's Wentworth Courier Junior Sports Star nominee, sponsored by Rebel.
