This week’s match against the Sharks is another opportunity to exact some revenge. The Roosters were stunned at home by a team that had experienced a drought that would have made farmers stand up and take notice.
The team from the Shire is familiar with droughts and need no further reminding than their bare display cabinet at Cronulla Leagues Club. Of course, as Roosters fans we are hoping that this unenviable statistic is unchanged by the end of the season.
It will be a danger game however. Not only because of the Sharks’ recent poor form, but for the fact that the Roosters will be coming off a big win against a competition heavyweight.
They say revenge is best served cold. Well there was no better example of this against the Melbourne Storm on Monday night. In Antarctic-like conditions, the Roosters ran riot against the competition leaders.
The home side troubled the scorers inside the opening few minutes. In fact there were two quick touch downs, giving the freezing fans a reason to pull their hands out of their pockets.
The star of the show was the ever reliable utility Mitchell Aubusson. I have yet to see a player play so many positions, and all of them at a first grade standard. He is a marvel and we are very lucky to have him wearing the tricolours.
It was good to see the Melbourne Storm live up to their name of being the biggest nigglers in the NRL. Time after time, set after set, their experienced campaigners wrestled, held, bent and twisted Roosters players in an attempt to slow the play the ball.
This tactic didn’t pan out too well for them however. The Roosters were far too strong in the end. In fact, if it wasn’t for a number of squandered opportunities, the scoreline could have been much bigger.
Things are looking good for the Chooks. After a miserable month in April, the team has found some form at a time of year where wins can become unpredictable due to the representative schedule. If the team can stay healthy there is no reason why good times are not ahead.
And for the record, the Roosters lost the penalty count 11-6. This is an amazing statistic considering the Roosters had 60% possession and were on top for the entire match. That is now 38 games in succession without receiving seven or more penalties. The next worst is two games.
Easts to win.
