FROM THE COOP: Tough match sees Roosters edge off Cowboys

Even the biggest cynic would now start believing that this Roosters team has the ability to go all the way in this year's competition.

If you haven't checked out the NRL ladder recently you would be happy to know where we stand right now. Only bitter rivals South Sydney sit higher than us.

We can let them bask in their glory for now, however they deserve their position at the top at the moment.

The players would have still had bruises during their rub down in the sheds prior to kick off.

The match against Manly would have taken its toll and the quick back up and the long trip to Townsville made for a tough night. The match turned out to be one of the toughest in recent history.

This was one of the gutsiest wins I've seen as a Roosters supporter.

Considering we had no ball and a penalty count of 9-3 against it was an amazing effort to keep the home side to one try.

The whistle blowers did everything they could to keep the home side in the contest. It seems it will take some time for our perceived lack of discipline to be wiped by the officialdom.

The tackling bags at Moore Park will be collecting dust this week as the players won’t be requiring too much practice in this area.

The Cowboys seemed to be parked in our half for most of the match as the home side marched forward courtesy of the whistle. It's felt like it was only a matter of time before Roosters defence finally cracked.

Somehow the defence held on.

I think even the biggest cynic would now start believing that this Roosters team has the ability to go all the way in this year's competition.

There will be no bigger test than this Saturday night against last year's premiers the Melbourne Storm.

Rookie coach Trent Robinson has done an amazing job in turning this football team around.

The defensive attitude is something we haven't seen from the tricolours in a long time.

In fact I cannot recall a better defensive unit. Last year's team would have spent most of the game under the goalposts given the same conditions this year's team faced last Saturday.

The last four times the Roosters have won four straight games they have made the Grand Final – 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2010.

Now let's not jump the gun by blocking out that weekend from your social calendar, but rest assured we have a team that is hungry for success.

Easts to win.
