Life is good if you are a Roosters fan. Last week we were rejoicing the fact we had beaten Manly twice in the same season.
We can now tick off St George Illawarra after the comprehensive 36-0 drubbing we handed out to them at Kogarah Oval on Saturday.
The Roosters showed too much for the boys from Kogarah and Illawarra.
Not even a lopsided penalty count of 10-3 against (no that is not a misprint) could stop them from carving up the Dragons.
It was even more impressive given it was a quick back up from a tough match against Manly.
The halves pairing of Mitchell Pearce and James Maloney, much maligned after their performance for NSW in the second State of Origin, tore the Dragons to shreds.
They wore the bulk of the criticism after the Blues lost, however they responded in great style which is a compliment to them.
I reckon beating the Dragons feels better than beating Manly. Whenever they lose, their supporters offer up more excuses than a B grade jockey.
It was great seeing Dragons fans marching out of the stadium with more than 20 minutes remaining. We have been in that position before so it is nice seeing others face the same fate.
It was also the third time this season that we have kept the opposition scoreless.
Coach Trent Robinson and his support staff have done a fantastic job in turning this football team around and, if injuries are kind, we have plenty to look forward to come September.
The Roosters will now get a well earned week off. Star player Sonny Bill Williams will have time to get his hamstring right for our next game against the Cronulla Sharks at home.
If we can win that match it will almost certainly wrap up a top four finish. In fact, it looks as though it is a race with the Melbourne Storm to finish second place, and a home final in the first week of the play offs.
But we must not look too far ahead. This team is still learning and there is plenty of hard work ahead, however the evidence is there that they will not let up any time soon.
Easts to win.
