Cook and Philip swimmers get five records in medal haul

A GROUP of swimmers from the Cook and Phillip Park Aquatic Centre have returned from the Metro South East (MetSEA) Swimming Club Winter Championships with a swag of medals.
A team of 42 swimmers, aged between nine and 16 years from the city centre’s squad program competed in the Age & Open Championships over two days in June at Sydney Olympic Park.
The mostly eastern suburbs-based team took out second place picking up an impressive haul of 18 gold medals, 13 silver and 15 bronze.
Standout swimmers from the swim meet included Sean Arthur, 13, who claimed five gold medals and one bronze.
Sean while breakingset two championship records in the 100m and 200m freestyle events.
Fellow sprinter Ciaran Loh, 14, picked up six medals in total, along with two newrecords.
Teammate Francesca Fitzhenry, 14, claimed an outstanding eight medals in the long-distance events including a new championship record in the 400m individual medley.
Head coach Markus Erth praised his squad’s efforts, saying the eight scheduled training sessions each week had paid off.
