SOUTH SydneyÂ’s unbeaten start to the season will be put to the ultimate test this Saturday as the Bunnies prepare to take on reigning Premiers the Melbourne Storm in a top of the table blockbuster at ANZ Stadium.

The Bunnies warmed up for the clash with a hard-fought 24-22 win over the New Zealand Warriors at Mount Smart Stadium in New Zealand on Sunday, traditionally one of the toughest road trips in the NRL.

The visitors struck first thanks to a brilliant effort from Origin hopeful Nathan Merritt, who outclassed the Warriors’ right hand defence to score in the corner after just eight minutes.

Greg Inglis added to the tally seven minutes later with a ninety-metre effort to score virtually untouched.

The Warriors responded with a try to Ben Matulino, but celebrations were short-lived as Rabbitoh’s centre Bryson Goodwin responded, touching down to bring the half-time score to 18-6.

The home side turned up the tempo in the second half by scoring three quick tries to steal the lead in an impressive attacking performance.

But English man-mountain George Burgess snuffed out a Warriors upset by charging over the line from close range in what is fast becoming his ‘signature move’.

Despite both sides scoring four tries apiece, it was the boot of Adam Reynolds that proved vital – the young half kicking four from four, while Warriors counterpart Shaun Johnson missed one conversion.

Souths coach Michael Maguire was pleased with the Bunnies’ hard-fought win ahead of the clubs all-important clash with The Storm.

"I was very pleased with how our boys continually kept working hard in defence. They stuck to it and found a way to win." Maguire said.

Kick off is at 7:30pm on Saturday 13th April at ANZ Stadium.
