THE Bondi Bowl-A-Rama attracted a sell-out crowd on Sunday despite rain and humid conditions.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, the Bowl-A-Rama skateboarding competition was postponed to Sunday to give the Bondi skate bowl time to dry out.
World famous skaters including Bucky Lasek and Steve Caballero had their runs in the bowl in front of packed crowds but it was the Brazilian Pedro Barros who came out on top in the pro division and took the lion's share of the $100,000 prize purse the richest in the sports history.
Bondi's Poppy Olsen had to settle for four runs in the junior competition as the Dew Am Jam was shortened and rescheduled to the final session.
Despite missing out on a top-three finish, 12-year-old Poppy was still happy to match it with the boys and perform at her home bowl.
"Most of the kids do 540s and I can't do one of those yet," she said.
"I skate here at Bondi pretty much every day and while I can't do the 540 yet, I can do backside airs which I pull off most of the time."
Steve Caballero, who finished second in the masters division, said Poppy was an up-and-comer in the sport.
"She's lucky to have this bowl in her backyard, it's my sixth time here and it's definitely a highlight of the tour," the 48-year-old said.
"It's awesome to compete here in front of the beach."
"Bowl skatings got a lot of elements to it and they all come together here it's a tight space, there are different curves and hips and a deep and shallow end."
