EASTS Dolphins have signed former Australian player Michael Bevan as the club's new head coach for the 2013-14 season.
Bevan, a two-time World Cup winner with the Australian cricket team, was ranked the best ODI batsman in the world in 1997 and 1998.
Since retiring from international cricket in 2007 he has spent time coaching with Tasmania, Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League.
Bevan's signing marks an important step forward for the Dolphins who struggled last season, despite several appearances from in-form Middlesex batsman Sam Robson.
"Taking up the head coaching position for Easts is a great opportunity for me to give back to the game at the grade and grassroots level," Bevan said.
"I am looking forward to mentoring and coaching teams and players throughout the club to help increase their opportunities to achieve long term success and be part of an enjoyable club culture".
Easts president and ABC cricket commentator Jim Maxwell said the appointment was a major boost for the club as it looks to rebuild for the future.
"Michael is one of the finest batsmen NSW has produced and I know our playing group will look forward to learning from him," Maxwell said.
