THE recent closure of Kensington Bowling Club after more than 85 years has left another local sporting icon facing an uncertain future.

KikOff Soccer sub-leases part of the site and is in danger of getting the boot from its home grounds.

The club negotiated with council to continue playing there for at least six months while options for the land were considered.

But Kikoff general manager Oli Bramley said he hoped to form a long-term partnership with council to continue providing soccer for up to 100 teams.

"We would like to continue the sporting legacy the club has left over the years," he said.

Randwick mayor Tony Bowen said a decision on the site's future would be made with close community consultation.

"I'm glad the kids can keep playing soccer in the coming months," he said.

"In the meantime, council will consider the future use of both the building and the greens."

Cr Bowen said the closure was sad as the club was a real local institution.
