AFL Sydney club Saints AFC has changed its name to the Randwick City Saints.

The club applied to change its name before the 2013 season to enhance its identity with the sporting community.

Randwick mayor Tony Bowen said the name change was a natural fit.

AFL NSW/ACT general manager Tom Harley said the name change would give the club an opportunity to better engage the community in their activities.

Saints AFC trains at Pioneers Park, Malabar and competes in the AFL Sydney Mens and Womens competitions, and fields a team in the AFL Sydney Under 18s competition.

The junior Australian football club Maroubra Saints is not included in this name change, they will remain the Maroubra Saints.

The newly formed senior womens club has not confirmed their team name for season 2013.
