Souths eye final after five victories

SOUTH Sydney have scored 24 unanswered second-half points to reel in the Warriors and press home their dominance with a 30-13 win in Perth on Sunday.

SOUTH Sydney have scored 24 unanswered second-half points to reel in the Warriors and then press home their dominance with a 30-13 win in a high-quality NRL clash in Perth on Sunday.

The Warriors headed west on the back of winning five straight games to put themselves right back into finals contention and produced an outstanding first half.

Tries to Simon Mannering in the 28th minute and Konrad Hurrell eight minutes later set up a 13-6 lead at the break.

However the top-of-the-table Rabbitohs, playing their fifth straight 'home' clash at nib Stadium and in front of a record 20,221 crowd, put on a show in the second half to dampen the spirits of the predominantly pro-Warriors support in the stands.

Second-half tries to John Sutton, a double to West Australian product Bryson Goodwin and a late four-pointer to Chris McQueen lifted the Rabbitohs to a fifth-straight victory.

Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire was delighted with what Souths delivered after the break.

"In the first half we just put too much pressure on ourselves and in the second half they just turned that around," he said.

Warriors coach Matthew Elliott was reasonably pleased with his team but felt they have work to do.
