Easts Basketball League expands with new comps after sport surges in popularity
BASKETBALL is surging in popularity, even though the finals series of the NBA has come to an end.
BASKETBALL is surging in popularity and although the finals series of the NBA has come to an end, Easts Basketball League has a number of teams taking to the court.
League organiser Luke Trimble said athletes such as Australian stars Andrew Bogut and Lauren Jackson, as well as the indomitable LeBron James, have sparked Sydneysiders' interest in basketball.
"Especially after the Olympic Games, we see a spike in people coming through and now the NBA is what everyone's talking about," Trimble said.
"And now that the Sydney Kings are on the rise again, that kind of basketball popularity filters back to us."
Easts Basketball League has men's, women's and junior teams for social, competitive and elite players.
The league recently expanded to play in the new Cranbrook facility.
"Almost every night of the week we have basketball on somewhere in the eastern suburbs, and now we've got social and mixed comps, women's, and over 35s teams," Trimble said.
"We've got new competitions starting all the time, with spaces in the women's league, under-16 boys and girls."
