A 45-year-old man had been charged after being tackled by a good Samaritan after allegedly committing a street robbery at Ultimo.
A 22-year-old woman was on Bay Rd at around 9.30pm on Sunday, when she was approached by a man, who snatched her mobile phone from her hand after a struggle.
The woman yelled for help which alerted some witnesses.
A 26-year-old woman ran to assist the victim and tackled the man to the ground. He was then restrained by the woman and her two friends until police arrived.
The man was taken to Day Street Police Statio
The man allegedly defecated in the police cage vehicle on the way to Day Street Police Station.
The man was charged with steal from person, malicious damage, and goods in custody.
He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Monday January 21).
Burwood
A 22-year-old man appeared in Burwood Court on Sunday after being charged with multiple break, enter and steal offences and resisting arrest. Officers from Burwood Police Area Command’s Proactive Crime Team investigated several break-ins that took place in Burwood, Strathfield and Croydon. In January, officers responded to a break-in at Croydon, where they were confronted by a man armed with a knife. The man escaped officers. About 4pm on January 17, officers from the Crime Team arrested a 22-year-old man in a licensed premise at Auburn. After being taken to Auburn Police Station, the man, a Chinese national, was taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment. Officers later conducted a search warrant at a home in Liverpool Rd, Burwood Heights, where they seized clothing and items alleged to have been stolen. The man was charged with five break, enter and steal offences. He was also charged with use an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention and resist arrest.
Marrickville
Officers from Inner West Police Area Command have charged a 43 year-old man after he allegedly threatened a family at Marrickville Park last year. Police were called to the park on Sunday, November 25, after reports of a man allegedly armed with a knife. Officers confronted the man, and a shot was fired by an officer. No one was injured. The man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station before being taken to hospital for assessment. On Wednesday, January 16, the man was released from hospital and taken to Burwood Police Station. He was charged with three counts of use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, and use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.
Darlington
Police are appealing for information after a pedestrian was struck by a car in Darlington on Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to Shepherd St Darlington shortly after 5am, following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a car.
A 26-year-old man was treated at the scene and was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Officers from Redfern Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
A NSW Police spokesman said the vehicle which struck the man did not stop and is believed to have continued north along Shepherd Street, before briefly returning to the scene and driving away in a southerly direction.
Police are appealing to locate a vehicle described as a silver 2002 to 2006 Holden Commodore sedan.

Newtown
A man faced court on Saturday after being charged with stabbing another man in Newtown.
Several residents at a unit complex in camden St, Newtown became involved in a verbal dispute at around 4pm on Friday January 18.
A short time later a 49-year-old man entered one of the units where he allegedly stabbed the occupant, a 30-year-old man in the chest.
Emergency services and officers from Inner West Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.
The injured man was treated at the scene and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.
Police located and arrested the 49-year-old man who was taken to Newtown Police Station.
He was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday January 19.
