Man faces attempted murder charges over woman’s fall from Redfern balcony

A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly throwing a woman from a balcony during a domestic incident in Redfern on Sunday.

A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly throwing a woman from a balcony during a domestic incident in Redfern on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to a unit block on Moorehead Rd, Redfern at around 9.25pm on Sunday, following reports a woman had been thrown from a balcony on the first floor.

Officers from Redfern Police Area Command attended the scene and found a 39-year-old woman with serious injuries.

A crime scene was established at the address and the woman was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition with fractures.

A short time later, police located and arrested a 45-year-old man in one of the building’s units.

He was taken to Redfern Police Station, where he was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court today (Monday January 21).

While at the unit in Redfern, officers were confronted with another incident.

A 34-year-old man unrelated to the first incident, began damaging a police car with a cricket bat.

The man was arrested and taken to Redfern Police Station where he is expected to be charged with malicious damage.
