Police appeal for information after man robbed and assaulted in Redfern

Officers from Redfern Police Area Command are appealing for information after a man was assaulted and robbed in Redfern last night.

OFFICERS from Redfern Police Area Command are appealing for information after a man was assaulted and robbed in Redfern last night.

A 74-year-old man was walking from Chalmers St into Redfern Oval at around 9.30pm on Thursday night.

He made it about halfway across the oval when he felt two blows to the back of his head and body.

When he turned around he saw three men who had assaulted him.

The man covered his head but was aware two further offenders also assaulted him.

During the assault, the man’s shoulder bag, which contained cash and personal papers were taken from him.

When he cried out for help, two men and two women came to assist and the five offenders fled from the scene.

Paramedics treated the man for lacerations to both hands, abrasions to his legs and soreness to his head and body.

Officers from Redfern Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

They are searching for four teenage males and one 20-year-old male.

They are describe of all being of caucasian appearance around 160 to 165cm tall and wearing singlets and shorts.
