Millions of pints of Guinness will be sunk this weekend in celebration of St Patrick’s Day, with NSW expected to down a big chunk of the freshly-imported stout.
Punters across the nation are set to down 2.4 million pints as part of the Irish holiday on March 17 with 13,000 kegs and more than 1.4m cans of Guinness primed for pubs.
Global beverage company and leading distributer of Guinness, Lion Australia revealed NSW Guinness-lovers are expected to down the second .
Lion Brand director of premium beer Albertus Lombard, said this St Patricks' day will mark one of the biggest in the company’s history with the launch of their new alcoholic free Guinness.
“I think it’s safe to say how excited for St. Patrick’s Day we are … for a lot of venues this is one of the biggest trading days of the year, even almost as big as Christmas,” he said.
“It really doesn’t matter what St. Patrick’s Day means to you, whether you are celebrating the Irish heritage in Australia or catching up with friends at the pub or at home, it’s really a cause for celebration.”
With Lion Australia expecting the country to be thirsty for the black liquid this weekend, Albertus Lombard has assured Aussies everywhere there will be no shortage.
“I can assure Australians they will not have any trouble finding a pint this weekend,” he said.
“We are bringing in millions of the stuff and it’s safe to say the majority of it will be in NSW.”
