Seventh person charged over alleged Potts Point brawl with police

Police have laid charges on a seventh person – a 21-year-old man – as investigations continue into an alleged brawl outside a Kings Cross hotel last month.

A seventh person has been charged over an alleged wild brawl with police outside a Potts Point hotel that left several officers nursing serious injuries.

Police announced on Monday a man, 21, had been issued a court attendance notice amid ongoing inquiries into the incident on Bayswater Rd about 11.20pm on October 19.

The man will appear at Downing Centre Local Court on January 7, charged with two counts of assault police in the execution of duty.

He joins six co-accused who have already been charged over the alleged confrontation outside the Flamingo Lounge in Kings Cross, after which five officers allegedly required hospitalisation.

Police claim they were called to the hotel following reports of a disturbance after a man was ejected from the premises when an incident broke out involving a large group of people.

About 25 officers from Kings Cross, Surry Hills, and Sydney City police area commands, assisted by the Public Order and Riot Squad, were tasked to the scene.

It will be alleged in court injuries sustained by the five officers included a fractured elbow, torn bicep, dislocated jaw, and a fractured nose.

Brothers Tuni and Sione Feunga Usaia, and his partner Kirsten Andersen have fronted court on several charges relating to the incident.

The Usaia brothers, aged 34 and 25, have been refused bail.

Sione Usaia is facing two charges of drug possession and affray and will next appear in court on January 9.

His older brother was charged with affray, causing grievous bodily harm to police, four counts of assault police in the line of duty causing actual bodily harm, two counts of assault police in line of duty and resisting arrest.

He will return to court on December 19.

Andersen has been granted bail and last week entered a plea of not guilty to six charges including affray, assault police, assault police causing actual bodily harm, resist arrest, wilfully obstructing police and refusing to leave a premises.

Maria Usaia, 22, and RSA marshall Daniel Malupo, 31, were also granted bail and will appear in court on November 21.

Usaia is accused of assaulting two cops, causing actual bodily harm to one, and leaving three others to fear for their safety in the melee.

Malupo is charged with three counts of assault police, three counts of hinder police, and one count of affray, conceal serious indictable offence and carry on security without a license.

A sixth person, a 28-year-old man, was arrested at Wyong police station on October 30 and charged with two counts of assault police and one of affray.

He will make his first court appearance on Tuesday, November 12.
