Redfern police charge man with theft of vehicles stuck at traffic lights

A MAN responsible for a series of alleged thefts from cars stopped at traffic lights in Redfern has been arrested and charged.

A MAN responsible for one of a series of alleged thefts from cars stopped at traffic lights has been arrested and charged in an operation by Redfern police.

Following months of heightened vigilance from both Redfern and Surry Hills police and the community after a number of breaks ins targeting women around the Redfern area, police arrested a 23-year-old man.

He was arrested in connection to three of the incidents where he targeted stationary vehicles at traffic lights or heavy traffic on South Dowling St.

The man was also charged with fraud offences in relation to credit cards stolen from these bags, which he had subsequently used.

He was refused bail and was due to appear in court on Tuesday.

Several other targeted thefts are still to be resolved, so police are urging stow their handbags out of sight and to lock car doors while driving in the area.
