Mario Alexandridis: Double Bay dentist gunman caught speeding in Bentley

A man who was jailed for firing a gun into his ex-mother-in-law’s eastern suburbs dental surgery has now been caught speeding in a Bentley Continental. The court also heard of a string of other offences he’s committed in recent months.

A man who made headlines when he fired a gun inside the Double Bay building housing his mother-in-law's up-market dental practice has found himself in trouble again after being caught speeding in his Bentley Continental.

Mario Alexandridis, from Brighton Le Sands, was jailed for nearly two years in 2015 for firing shots into the floor of his ex-wife’s apartment which sat above his former in-laws’ dental clinic.

He was back in court earlier this month for travelling at 127 km/h in an 80 zone on the Warringah Freeway in January.

When police stopped him near Merlin St and Falcon St in North Sydney, they discovered he also didn't have a licence.

According to police facts, when asked if he knew what the speed limit was, he said: “No, no, no I wasn’t going 100. How much was it saying? I was overtaking so a little bit more than 80.”

Alexandridis told police he did not have his licence on him but showed them a photograph of a NSW driver’s licence on his phone with his name and picture.

He told police the licence was valid from December 17 last year.

But an on-the-spot police check showed that when Alexandridis applied for a license to drive the Bentley, it was refused as he had incurred too many demerit points.

Alexandridis had also recently come off the back of a six-month suspension, ending late December 2019, for driving with a prescribed illicit drug present in his system.

While on that suspension, in October last year, Alexandridis was charged for driving during a disqualification period while his wife and two kids were in the car.

The BMW SVU he was driving through Woollahra at the time was also unregistered and uninsured.

Alexandridis told police he thought he was only suspended for three months rather than six, but admitted he had not attended the RMS to reapply for his licence anyway.

He pleaded guilty in relation to this matter and speeding in the Bentley and was due to be sentenced in court last week.

However the matter was adjourned as a result of temporary COVID-19 protocols.

The three outstanding matters – driving a motor vehicle while disqualified (first offence), exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h in a Class A vehicle and driving while licence application refused (second offence) – are now set for sentence on June 16.

He served two years in jail for storming into his ex-wife’s Double Bay apartment with a gun back in 2014.

He pointed the gun at her and her then-partner and shot twice.

The apartment doubled as his ex-mother-in-law Sandra Short’s dental practice Dentartistry.

He was handed 38 month sentence with a non-parole period of 22 months ending.
