Police have hailed the seizure of enough MDMA powder to make 8000 pills as a win ahead of the summer festival season.

It comes after Strike force police raided a unit in Sydney’s CBD on Wednesday, arresting a man who allegedly tried to smuggle 500g of MDMA into Australia via an air cargo consignment from the UK.

Fandy Tanuwijaya, 29, has been charged with several offences including attempt to possess marketable quantity of border-controlled drug, supply commercial quantity of prohibited drug and deal in proceeds of crime.

Police will allege Australian Border Force officers intercepted a package sent from the UK on Friday, October 18, with tests returning positive results for MDMA.

The package weighed 500g, enough to cut with other agents to make 8000 pills — which could be sold at a total street value of $200,000.

Tanujiwaya was arrested following extensive investigations at his Sussex St apartment five days later.

Tanuwijaya was arrested at the scene and taken to Day St police station.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today where he did not apply for release.
