Lucy the rat reunited with owner after going missing in Pitt St

Two weeks after she went missing from a milk crate in Pitt St, Lucy the rat has been reunited with her heartbroken owner in an Easter miracle.

Lucy the rat — the beloved pet of a homeless man that was believed stolen from Pitt St earlier this month — has been returned to its owner safe and sound.

In a pre-Easter miracle, police reunited Chris, 59, with his companion at Day St police station on Thursday afternoon, almost two weeks after Lucy went missing from her milk crate.

CCTV footage was released of a woman police wanted to speak to regarding the disappearance. She was seen approaching Chris’ belongings on Pitt St about 2pm on April 6 before taking Lucy.

But as it turns out, that woman took Lucy home to care for her, believing she had been abandoned, according to police.

On Thursday Chris and his black and white rodent traded kisses and cuddles before Lucy turned her attention to the officers who helped search for her.

“She remembers me,” Chris said. “It feels wonderful (to be reunited).

“Thank you very much everybody. She knows she’s missed me too.”

The duo have been regular fixtures on Sydney streets for years, and the rat’s plight came to widespread attention through a picture uploaded to Facebook this month showing a heartbroken Chris holding a sign pleading for her return.

Chris and Lucy are a fixture of Sydney streets.

It sparked a social media storm and prompted a police investigation.

On Thursday Sydney city police area command officers thanked the community for its help during the search.
