Lucy Kelly: Oakville rave drug dealer sentenced

Two years ago the city was a playground for Lucy Kelly, striking poses for social media on top of pinball machines and inside nightclub bathrooms.

The young woman from Oakville, in Sydney’s northwest, had fallen into the world of illicit drugs and had begun selling ‘caps’ of MDMA across the city’s rave scene as part of a drug supply syndicate.

On Tuesday afternoon inside a large courtroom with her mother watching on, Kelly wore a baggy black Everlast hoodie and sat in the dock to face the music for her crimes.

The Oakville woman pleaded guilty last year to two charges, being knowingly take part in the supply of 27.7g of MDMA and the supply of 6.9g of the same drug.

Pleas of guilty were also entered on charges of participating in a criminal group, supplying 4g of cocaine and a further prohibited drug supply which were to be taken into account on sentence.

In a District Court sentence hearing, the court heard how the Oakville woman was “ingratiated” with the drug supply syndicate and would discuss prices, sale figures, and how to restock her drugs if the leader was out of area. On one occasion Kelly personally transported the same leader to execute a large drug deal with an undercover police officer on October 30 2019.

The court heard as Kelly’s MDMA use increased she swiftly fell down the criminal hole to become a street dealer, known to frequently use Frankie’s Pizza as a base for her illegal activities.

“She was supplying the prohibited drug by way of ‘point’ sales from Frankie’s Pizza, and or elsewhere,” the judge said when handing down sentence.

In the agreed facts, read out in court, it stated that “Kelly had a particular workspace at Frankie’s Pizza where people could attend to obtain illicit drugs from her”.

Between October and December 2019, Kelly supplied 6.9g of MDMA typically in the form of ‘caps’ which equated to .1g of the drug.

The court heard of the Oakville woman, aged in her early 20s, health problems and mental struggles following the passing of her father as a teenager.

Kelly was sentenced to three years jail, to be served in the community as an intensive corrections order, which saw a burst of emotion and tears from her.
