A Multi-billion dollar, homegrown design company is set for a huge upgrade as they pour millions into a brand new 10-storey office space in the heart of Surry Hills.
Graphic design company ‘Canva’ looks to move their flagship campus only meters from their current location at 110 Kippax St, for a new $56 million office space development at 8-24 Kippax St.
The masterplanned development proposal will see the existing building transformed into an employment hub kitted out with a gym, commercial kitchen and a community cafe.
The 12,000 sqm campus was bought for a reported $120 million last year and will have 920 workstations and accommodate more than 1500 employees.
The new building will take a green approach to its energy use with a rooftop addition containing plant and installation of a bio-solar green roof, consisting of solar panels.
The existing basement level parking of 55 spaces will also be removed and replaced by plant areas, studio space for fitness, meditation and yoga classes.
In addition to the redesign of the building, a retail space will also be allocated on the corner of Sophia Street and Terry Street and is proposed to be operated by not-for profit organisations with funding from the Canva Foundation.
Canva’s head of vibe, Chris Low, said the company is considering using their roof facilities for breeding, raising, and harvesting fish, shellfish and aquatic plants on it.
“The green roof will also provide insulation to reduce heat load, foster biodiversity as a haven for birds and insects, and generate green energy,” he said. “Something we’re also excited to be exploring is introducing aquaculture on the rooftop.”
The $40-billion company was formed by the pair while they were studying in WA in 2013.
