Wyong shooting

Bradley Jason Mark White will be arraigned next month almost two years to the day after he allegedly shot dead one man and injured two other people before allegedly going an hour-long shootout with police in the heart of Wyong.

The 41-year-old, of Wyong, did not enter any pleas when his matter was mentioned briefly at Wyong Local Court last week before he was adjourned to face the Supreme Court in Sydney on March 4.

Mr White was arrested shortly after 7pm on March 17, 2020, following an hour-long alleged shooting rampage, in which police will allege he fired between 60-100 rounds until he ran out of ammunition.

Police allege the shooting began with the murder of 20-year-old Byron Tonks, of Watanobbi, about 6.15pm.

Police further allege Mr White went from house-to-house allegedly firing shots into numbers 9, 26, 28, 30 and 32 Cutler Ave and 2 and 2A Woodward Ave before he was cornered inside his duplex unit at 7A Cutler Ave by heavily armed tactical police.

Mr White was also charged with two counts of shooting with the intent to murder Pamela Dickinson, then aged 45, who suffered a non life-threatening glancing gunshot wound to her arm and a 50-year-old man who suffered “superficial” injuries.

Mr White, who police allege was armed with unregistered shortened firearm and a 6.5x52mm Carcano bolt action rifle, will also be arraigned on five counts of firing into a house with disregard for people’s safety, discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and several weapons and ammunition offences.

A further 14 counts of destroying or damaging property, including shooting a Holden Commodore belonging to Mr Tonk’s brother Lachlan Tonks, were placed on a Section 166 certificate to be considered at the end of his court proceedings.

Police have never stated a motive for the alleged shooting rampage but confirmed at the time the deceased and the two other victims were known to Mr White.

A Highway Patrol officer also suffered a back injury going to the assistance of Mr Tonks.
