Emergency services were called to Clarence St about 10.25am following reports that a blaze has broken out.
Tuggerah Lakes police arrived to find the house well-alight.
The fire was extinguished by firefighters from NSW RFS and Fire and Rescue NSW.
The body of a woman was found during a search of the home.
She has not been formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 80s.
A crime scene has been established, and investigations are underway into the case of the fire.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
