Covid alert for Kincumber Indoor Sports Centre as two people test positive

Health authorities have issued a Covid alert for a sports centre at Kincumber. It comes after the region recorded one of the first cases of the Omicron variant in NSW this week.

Deputy CMO: Omicron variant highly transmissible but a milder strain of COVID-19

Central Coast health authorities have issued a Covid alert for a Kincumber sports centre.

Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) issued the alert on Friday afternoon after being notified of two confirmed cases of Covid who attended the Kincumber Indoor Sports/Play Centre while infectious on Sunday November 28.

However CCLHD has ruled out the cases having the Omicron variant of the disease.

“The District’s Public Health Unit advises there is no evidence to suggest the cases who attended the venue are infected with the Omicron COVID-19 variant of concern,” a CCLHD spokesman said.

“Anyone who attended Kincumber Indoor Sports/Play Centre (19 Cochrone Street, Kincumber) on 28 November from 10.15am until 11.20am is a casual contact and must immediately get tested and isolate.

“Casual contacts must get tested, even if they have had a test recently. You must isolate until you receive a negative result. If you receive a negative result, please continue to monitor for symptoms and if any symptoms appear, get tested and isolate again. This advice must be followed, even if you are fully vaccinated.”

NSW Health has directly contacted people who checked in to the sports centre during the times listed. People who attended on the same day but outside of the times indicated should

monitor for symptoms and get tested if symptoms appear.

A Central Coast woman who has tested positive to the Omicron variant of Covid visited various venues across the region in recent days.

The woman, ages in her 30s, is now in isolation however visited five locations across the northern part of the coast on Friday and Saturday.

NSW Health has confirmed that initial testing “strongly indicates one more overseas traveller, who recently arrived in NSW and is isolating at home on the Central Coast, has been infected with the Omicron COVID-19 variant of concern”.

“When confirmed, this would bring the total number of confirmed cases of Omicron in NSW to five,” NSW Health has stated.

“The traveller, who is fully vaccinated, arrived in Sydney on flight QR908 from Doha to Sydney on 25 November and travelled by private car to the Central Coast. The traveller had been in southern Africa.”

The woman visited a number of venues across Sydney and the coast before health authorities advised travellers from southern Africa to go into isolation.

Anyone who attended the following venue at the listed times is a casual contact who must immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

NSW Health is urging all travellers arriving in NSW who have been in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini and Malawi during the 14-day period before their arrival in NSW must enter hotel quarantine for 14 days, irrespective of their vaccination status.

Earlier on Tuesday, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard confirmed the fifth case of the Omicron variant.

“Until today we knew we had four cases – two came in on Saturday, two on Sunday,” Mr Hazzard told 7NEWS.

“We now believe there was another case – a woman in her 30s. This particular lady came in before the new arrangements, that is transferring to a health hotel, so she has been out in the community and health is now investigating that.

Mr Hazzard said the woman had “essentially been out in the Central Coast area.”

The five cases of the new variant include another two overseas travellers.

“Both passengers arrived in Sydney from southern Africa on Singapore Airlines flight SQ211 Sunday, 28 November. They are fully vaccinated and isolating in the Special Health Accommodation,” NSW Health states.

“Everyone on the flight is considered a close contact and will need to get tested immediately for COVID-19 and isolate for 14 days, regardless of their vaccination status. NSW Health is contacting all passengers and flight crew to advise them of isolation requirements. They can also call NSW Health on 1800 943 553 for further advice.

NSW Health is also investigating two Covid cases who arrived in NSW on flight QR908 on November 25 who are currently isolating at their homes.

It comes as 179 cases of Covid are recorded in NSW in the 24 hours to 8pm on Monday night, with eight of those on the Central Coast.
