Real estate agent mauled by dogs at Umina Beach
UPDATE: Work colleagues have been left “shocked” and “deeply upset” after a staff member was savagely attacked by two large dogs during a pre-booked rental inspection.
The 49-year-old property manager suffered a compound fracture to her arm and a laceration to her leg after two large dogs, described by neighbours as similar to Bull Mastiffs, attacked.
The property manager, identified as Joanne Hayes, attended the property on Australia Ave about 10.15am for a pre-booked inspection when she was viciously mauled.
Neighbours ran to her aid and it is understood they were able to pull the dogs off her.
Police, paramedics and council rangers attended.
Ms Hayes was treated at the scene before CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to Umina Beach at 11.20am, landing in nearby McEvoy Oval.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic provided further treatment before she was loaded into the helicopter and flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Wiseberry Peninsula director Troy Howe said the inspection was pre-booked, however, the tenant who owned the dogs was at work.
“By the time we arrived the police were on site,” he said.
“The staff (here) are deeply shocked, we are all extremely upset.”
Mr Howe said the agency had been operating for seven years without incident and the safety of their staff was paramount.
However he said there would be a full review of their procedures.
Mr Howe said once the tenant was informed of the attack he came to the house immediately and surrendered the dogs to rangers.
A Central Coast Council spokeswoman confirmed both dogs had been euthanised.
“The tenant was extremely upset,” Mr Howe said.
“He came to the property and was quite shocked, he was not there at the time, which I’m glad, (because) he’s a young man.
“He was very upset, he surrendered them immediately.”
The Express Advocate approached the owner of the dogs but he declined to comment.
