Introducing Wisemans Surf Lodge

Australia’s first resort-style surfing destination in Wisemans Ferry is on track for completion in 2022.

Construction is close to starting on Wisemans Surf Lodge at the old Wisemans Ferry Retreat and Golf Club located on 45 acres.

It will have a state-of-the-art wave pool the size of four football fields stacked and will also be the first wave pool development that caters to more than just surfing, surrounded by a golf course, 54 hotel suites, eatery, bar and more with riverfront access.

The highly-anticipated project, valued at $75m, has officially been approved by Hills Shire Council.

The team at Wisemans Surf Lodge has announced that the renowned Byron Bay eatery Harvest is coming on board as part of the surf lodge.

Harvest Wisemans will mark the company’s second venue and will offer food experiences which celebrate the Hawkesbury region’s produce. It will include an eatery, outdoor bars, barbecue deck and kiosk, as well as an event space and discovery garden for families.

Harvest creative director David Moyle said the partnership came about when John Du Vernet, co-founder of Wisemans Surf Lodge, was visiting Harvest Newrybar with his family and the pair met.

“The more we got talking and the more we learned about Wisemans Surf Lodge, the more we discovered synergies and aligned values which led us to Harvest Wisemans,” he told the Express.

“Our heartland is in creating experiences that redefine people’s relationships with food, by building communities that honour the existing food bowl of our surroundings.

“Harvest Wisemans will be a continuation of this … we will definitely celebrate all

the Hawkesbury has to offer by showcasing local growers and produce. Whether you’re grabbing breakfast at the kiosk, exploring the garden or enjoying a sundowner on the deck, we look forward to enabling new food experiences for the region.”

Mr Du Vernet said Wisemans Ferry was one of Sydney’s best kept secrets.

“In creating Wisemans Surf Lodge, we wanted to create a sustainable space that embraces the region and its sense of community, inclusive of its neighbouring vineyards, distilleries, stone fruit and citrus orchards,” he said.

“With its vast greenery and open fields, our site is reminiscent of the Byron Hinterland, home of the original Harvest location. We can’t wait to bring this experience to more people with Harvest Wisemans, which will open to the public in 2022.”

Sustainability is also a key theme for the lodge, with Harvest Wisemans planning an on site integrated food system while the surf lodge is also keen to reduce environmental impacts through sourcing 100 per cent offset renewable energy to break waves, an on-site solar system powering all facilities and water sourced from the river.

Access to Wisemans Surf Lodge will work on a membership-model, with more information to be revealed in the coming months.
