New images reveal plans for the redevelopment of West Gosford Shopping Centre to include a 24 hour gym, child care centre and Hungry Jacks.

Mintus Properties Pty Ltd has lodged a development application with Central Coast Council for a $2.2 million three stage development at the run down Brisbane Water Drive site.

The privately owned Parramatta developer bought the site in June for $23 million from ISPT and Coles with a promise to “redevelop and reinvigorate the precinct”.

The enormous 17,559 sqm site has been semi-vacant for years, with several shops closing in 2017.

The redevelopment proposes a liquor store, gym, Hungry Jacks to operate 24 hours a day, new shop fronts and facade, 81 place child care facility along and an increase to 209 carparking spaces.

Stage one will include construction of the Hungry Jacks, including new carparking spaces for the fast food restaurant.

Coles is also set for a makeover.

Stage two will see facade upgrades and first floor renovations and fit-outs including converting existing office space into a childcare centre and a gym.

Stage three focuses on upgrade works including demolition of the existing tavern, new carpark entry and exits, forecourt refurbishment with outdoor seating, new mall and shopfront to Coles, pedestrian arcade from Brisbane Water Drive and amenities upgrade.

The application has attracted more than 30 submissions, with strong objections to Hungry Jacks. Many have pointed out that there is another Hungry Jacks outlet just two minutes down the road.

“Harris Farm, an up-market deli … that’s what the area wants,” one submission stated.

“Have you even considered a family style restaurant? The area is teeming with young families. Think outside the box please, the coast is a changing area and it’s time to pull this precinct into the present.”

Another submission stated “this location should be used to showcase a healthy, fresh, scenic entrance to the Central Coast, not expand the already numerous amount of unhealthy fast food locations”.

“Let’s create a shopping centre that truly engages our community. Somewhere to have breakfast on the weekend and for retirees to meet and connect,” it stated.

The DA is on public exhibition until October 31.
