Mr Murphy allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted the senior constable from Brisbane Water Police District. He did not sustain any injuries.

During his bail application, the court heard Mr Murphy was a second-year apprentice who had received compensation for an injury and was looking to return to his apprenticeship.

The court also heard Mr Murphy feared for his safety in custody due to family connections.

The prosecution opposed bail, due to the dangers of reoffending.

Magistrate Ian Rodgers stated the latest offences occurred when Mr Murphy was on bail for common assault and an AVO matter.

He said the incident at Narara Station “elevated the level of seriousness” and the prosecution case was strong.

“The assault is an alleged headbutt … and strike in the nose,” he said.

Magistrate Rodgers said other allegations stated the man “bearhugged” the female victim, put her on the ground and placed his arm over her throat.

“(He) assaulted her in an extremely serious way indeed,” he said.

Mr Murphy will appear in Gosford Local Court tomorrow.
