The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A man has faced court after allegedly leading police on a pursuit at Warnervale before checks revealed he was wanted in Queensland, a court has heard.

Tuggerah Lakes Highway Patrol officers were patrolling Warnervale on Friday when they attempted to stop a vehicle on Sparks Rd about 10.30am.

When the vehicle failed to stop as directed, police began a pursuit.

The car stopped in Coral Gum Rd, at Hamlyn Terrace, where the driver, which police will allege was the sole occupant, ran into nearby bushland.

Officers, with the assistance of PolAir, the Dog Squad and other police, established a perimeter and later arrested a 23-year-old man allegedly hiding in a garden shed in the backyard of a home on Dundonald Ave.

In charge sheets tendered to court police allege the man, Locklan Terrence Mulholland, of Gorokan, attempted to resist arrest before he was taken to Wyong Police Station.

Checks revealed Mr Mulholland was the holder of a learner’s licence which was disqualified until 2029 and he was also wanted on two outstanding warrants.

Mr Mulholland was charged with driving while disqualified, driving recklessly, furiously or in a dangerous manner, trespassing and resisting arrest.

He faced bail court on Saturday where he was refused to appear at Gosford Local Court on Monday.

His Legal Aid solicitor told the court on Monday Mr Mulholland had been homeless but could abide by strict bail conditions including reporting daily to police, a curfew and that he live with his mother at Raymond Terrace.

However the police prosecutor told the court Mr Mulholland had demonstrated a “flagrant disregard” for court orders and had gone to considerable efforts to “avoid detention”.

In refusing him bail Magistrate Michael Antrum said Mr Mulholland was also wanted on an arrest warrant from Queensland.

He will face court again on September 8.
