A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital with suspected neck and spinal injuries after her car towing a caravan flipped on the M1 Motorway at Mount White this afternoon, causing traffic to back up for 13 kilometres.

The car flipped onto its roof near the weighbridge exit at Mount White just before 1.30pm today.

The 4WD and caravan had hit the rock wall beside the southbound lane and rolled on its side, closing two of three southbound lanes.

The woman remained trapped in the vehicle for more than an hour as rescue teams worked to extricate her from the wreck.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic worked with NSW Ambulance paramedics to assist the woman while she remained trapped.

She has since been airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital with suspected neck and spinal injuries. She is in a serious but stable condition.

Her male passenger was taken uninjured to the same hospital via road ambulance.
