Two locals are among the 25 finalists from thousands of entries across Australia and New Zealand to become the next Discovery Channel Global Intern.

Up for grabs is an all expenses paid adventure spanning five countries on four continents — possibly the best “internship” in the world.

And they want your vote to carry them to the next stage of the competition.

One of the world’s largest pay TV channels, with subscribers across 220 countries, Discovery went looking for someone who was adventurous, creative and loved to travel.

The overall winner will visit Japan, USA, Germany, South Africa and Croatia with a friend. Also included in the prize is a Nikon D7500 camera and lens kit.

The lucky intern’s “job” will be to write, take photos and capture video about the trip and post it on Discovery Channel’s social platforms and blog, Heaps Of Stuff.

Applicants had until December to enter, before Discovery chose 100 finalists who were then put up for a public vote.

Kate Carragher, of Lake Munmorah, and Andrew Cooney, of East Gosford, have made the top 25 — and they are eager for local support.

The Central Coast pair are undergoing another round of public voting until February 5, when the number of finalists will be cut to five before Discovery chooses the ultimate winner.

“The Central Coast community has been incredible in supporting us both to get to this next round,” Ms Carragher, 34, said.

“We’re hoping that with the Coast behind us, Andrew and I can both get in the top five.”

An adventure photographer and filmmaker, Mr Cooney, 22, said becoming the next Discovery Intern would be a “dream come true”.

For their second round entry, the top 25 finalists were asked to upload a 60-second video on their favourite destination, with their top travel tip, a photograph and a short write-up.

Mr Cooney did his on Khutzeymateen Sanctuary in Canada’s British Columbia.

“So many unexpected things happened — like kayaking alongside a mother bear and cub — and learning to embrace these moments helped me enjoy the time and grow as a person,” he said.

Last year, 26-year-old Kiwi, Ben Mikha beat 10,000 entrants to take out the inaugural search.

As the Discovery Intern, he travelled to Singapore, New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, London, Iceland and Italy.

The photographer and videographer still contributes for Discovery.
