Terrigal Drive remains closed as dozens of police and plain clothes detectives try to piece together the circumstances behind a brazen shooting early this morning.

Four adults and one teenager were inside a house a few doors down from the Terrigal Pacific resort when up to five shots were fired into the premises about 4.30am. No one was injured.

It is not known what sparked the shooting but police have locked down Terrigal Drive between Junction Rd and Bellbird Ave, with a diversion in place via Havenview Rd.

Neighbours said they woke to the sound of gunshots but some said they thought it might have been loud banging coming from the nearby electrical substation.

“It didn’t sound like they were all together, they were spaced out,” one resident said.

“I heard two but my wife said she heard five.”

Detectives have been door knocking surrounding residents while officers from the Forensic Services Group have arrived to conduct a thorough investigation of the crime scene.

Another resident said he heard a car speed away from the scene shortly after the gunshots before turning left onto Willoughby Rd.

A resident named Katie said she lives in the house behind and woke to loud banging.

“I thought it was someone dropping something, like one of the boys got home and had dropped something,” she said.

“I checked my security cameras and there was nothing.”

She said 10 minutes later police were knocking on her door.

“It’s just crazy hey, it’s not anything you’d expect at Terrigal,” she said, adding that one of the bullets “may have hit my roof, they’re not sure”.
