Pictures: Local basketball squads among 300 teams at Coastal Classic

Gosford Rebels and Central Coast Waves teams took on some tough competition close to home at the annual Coastal Classic tournament.

Families from across NSW will converge on the Central Coast again this weekend for part two of the Coastal Classic basketball tournament.

Central Coast Basketball hosts the event, which features 300 teams from regional and metropolitan areas and runs across consecutive weekends.

Breakers Indoor Sports Stadium, Terrigal is the event home but additional courts are used at Niagara Park. Peninsula Leisure Centre, Central Coast Grammar School, Central Coast Adventist School and St Edward’s College.

Across the two weekends, this event is expected to attract 12,000 people to the Central Coast.

The first weekend featured boys and girls division two competitions from the under-12s through to the under-18s, including teams from the Gosford City Rebels and Central Coast Waves.

While both local clubs didn’t progress to the grand finals in division two, Manly and Inner Wests were the most successful clubs from weekend one, taking out two titles apiece. Newcastle, Dubbo, Port Macquarie and Sutherland were the other grand final winners.
