It’s not their usual pre-game training but it will have to do for the Central Coast Roosters as shocking weather continues to lash the coast in the lead-up to the Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley Cup grand finals
Chris Warwick, from the Central Coast Roosters Academy, said teams will not be able to get onto a field in preparation for Saturday’s decider of the under 16s and under 18s junior rugby league competitions.
The two deciders are scheduled to be played at HE Laybutt Field but check the NSWRL website for any updates.
“Training wise we still have the use of the Academy but the field is not open,” Warwick said.
“But we have the luxury of using the gym and doing off field stuff and conditioning inside.”
The Central Coast has been swamped by rain and wild weather with flooding widespread.
The Academy is based at Tuggerah Lake secondary college.
“We have a could of fields there but there’s buckley’s of getting on this week,’’ he said.
Both the under 16 and under 18s have made the season deciders.
LAURIE DALEY CUP GRAND FINAL: ROOSTERS V NORTHERN TIGERS
In the Laurie Daley Cup the Central Coast Roosters defeated the Monaro Colts 12-6 in the semi-final to book their spot in the 2021 decider against the Northern Tigers who downed the Western Rams for their berth.
The Roosters defeated the Tigers in round two of their competition but Warwick said he expects a different side to step out on Saturday.
“We were really on our game that day and the Northern Tigers had a distance to drive which never helps,’’ he said.
“I am sure they will be a lot stronger than they were then.’’
ANDREW JOHNS CUP GRAND FINAL: ROOSTERS V ILLAWARRA SOUTH COAST DRAGONS
In the Andrew Johns Cup the Roosters will take on the Illawarra South Coast Dragons.
The Dragons beat the North Coast Bulldogs 22-0 to book their spot while the Roosters defeated the Monaro Colts 18-0.
Both the Roosters and Illawarra have gone though the season undefeated.
“It’s a little unknown with the Andrew Johns because we haven’t played them in competition, and to their credit they have also gone through undefeated,’’ Warwick said.
