LOCAL product Jay Lenton has rejoined Sydney Thunder on a one-year deal for the upcoming Big Bash League campaign.
The wicketkeeper’s signing follows his impressive five-match stint as an injury replacement player last season.
“It’s very exciting news to get another deal with the Thunder,” Lenton said.
“It was honestly a bit surprising after being an injury replacement and then signing a full-time contract this season.”
The 27-year-old starred during the club’s pre-season tour recording scores of 73 against a Canterbury XI, and 61 against Melbourne Stars ahead of BBL06 last year.
Lenton went on to make his debut for the Thunder against Perth Scorchers at the WACA in January, before featuring in another four BBL matches.
The Toukley junior said he has high hopes for the Thunder this season.
“There are now 10 games this season, it’s great for the competition. There are more games and more exposure,” Lenton said.
“The competition is very close and we went close to making the semi last season, we were a win away from finals.
“With the depth that we have and the squad that we’re building I think we could go all the way.”
Lenton has been involved with the NSW Blues in the JLT One-Day competition this month.
“It was a disappointing end to our campaign, especially with our final match called off.”
The Thunder open their season against Sydney Sixers at Spotless Stadium on December 19.
