Serial shoplifter Kylie Louise Stuck sentenced over one-woman crime spree

A serial shoplifter, who’s one-woman crime spree stretched from Port Macquarie to Sydney Airport, asked police to ban her from retail outlets. But it didn’t work, a court has heard.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

From the outset Kylie Louise Stuck looked like any other respectable, middle aged woman.

But once she entered a shopping centre the mild-mannered woman told police she became a self-diagnosed, full blown “kleptomaniac” who couldn’t help herself from helping herself to five-fingered discounts, a court has heard.

The 48-year-old from Warnervale was sentenced in Wyong Local Court on Wednesday for two years jail, with a non-parole period of 12 months.

It came after Stuck pleaded guilty to 10 shoplifting offences along with one count each of having goods in custody, fraud and failing to disclose the driver of a car.

It was the end of the line for Stuck who had previously received dozens of cautions, bonds and court-ordered counselling.

Her 78-page criminal history, tendered to court, was littered with offences for shoplifting, fraud and other property-related crime dating back to 2011.

The court heard her latest string of offences began shortly after moving to Port Macquarie where she entered Plunket’s Pharmacy on March 24 last year and stole $974.85 worth of make up and beauty products.

Police identified her from CCTV.

She was on bail for this offence when she walked into Sassine Hair Salon at Narellan Town Centre on February 12, 2022, and asked to get her hair done.

She was quoted a price of $475 and told the hairdresser “yes, that’s fine”.

Two and a half hours later when the haircut was done Stuck asked if she could go to the bank and come back with cash.

However when she failed to return the hairdresser began calling her mobile before reporting it to police.

Officers caught up with Stuck, who was living at the time at Oran Park, and she told them “Oh my god, I forgot to pay for the haircut”.

“The accused is a repeat offender regarding fraud matters and stealing and displays no empathy for the victims or organisations,” an agreed set of facts state.

Stuck moved to the Central Coast where she visited Tuggerah Westfield on May 20 and stole two bottles of alcohol from Liquorland.

Asked later if she was the person — or could identify the person — depicted on CCTV leaving the store and getting into a Mazda, registered in her name, she said “I don’t recall”.

About 11.38am on May 22, 2022, Stuck entered Ozmosis Surf Wear shop at Lake Haven and stole two jumpers worth $70 each.

“The accused states that she would like the court to ban her from retail outlets to assist her in not reoffending,” an agreed set of facts state.

The plea fell on deaf ears because three days later she returned to Lake Haven Shopping Centre and stole $619 worth of skin care products, perfume and makeup from Priceline Pharmacy.

She left via Liquorland where she stole another two bottles of alcohol.

Police searched her rented Warnervale home on June 1 where they found the alcohol along with a heap of other clothes with the tags and sometimes coathangers still attached.

She said the items were stolen from Kmart but “didn’t want to say more”.

On June 10 she returned to Westfield Tuggerah where she visited QBD Books, Katies, Spendless Shoes and Cotton On Body where she stole various items of clothing, shoes and children’s toys totalling $297.41.

She was seen by plain clothes detectives putting the items in a plastic bag.

Officers then introduced themselves and she made “full admissions”.

On July 15 police were called to by staff from the Ripcurl shop at Terminal 2, Sydney Domestic Terminal, to report a woman had stolen a wallet and T-shirt.

Police caught up to Struck 10 minutes later and found perfume, books, earings and other items worth $802.89 stolen from various shops at the airport.

Struck will be eligible for release on September 4 next year.
